The PhD course will continue for 36–48 months past the Advanced Studies Course (1st Year), and will accommodate extensive training periods at MIT (approximately 6-12 months). Portuguese and International students and/or faculty visitors may also be hosted at MIT to participate in joint research projects.
Students must attend the school to be eligible for the scholarship.

10 FCT-PD-F MIXED SCHOLARSHIPS, WHICH CAN BE AWARDED FOR STUDENTS AT ANY UNIVERSITY
4 NORTE2020 (H2020) SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDED FOR UMINHO STUDENTS ONLY.
THE APPLICATION FOR NORTE2020 SCHOLARSHIPS FOLLOW THE SAME PROCESS AS FOR THE 10 PD-F/FCT FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS. ALL ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES NOT SELECTED UNDER THE PD-F SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CONSIDERED THE NORTE 2020 SCHOLARSHIPS, UNLESS THEY STATE OTHERWISE.
THE FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS WAS SUBMITTED TO ESF – EUROPEAN SOCIAL FUND, UNDER PROGRAMA OPERACIONAL REGIONAL DO NORTE - NORTE2020 AND GOT MERIT IN THE EVALUATION. THE SUBMISSION IS NOW UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE ANALYSIS. THE CONTRACTING PROCESS OF THE GRANTS IS SUBJECTED TO THE SIGNING OF THE INSTITUTIONAL CONTRACT WITH THE FUNDING ENTITY.
Recent graduates in engineering aiming at developing a career in technical or production management, with 2-3 years of practical experience. Typical background (5 years) will be mechanical eng., materials/polymer eng., electronic eng., industrial eng. and chemical eng.. Industrial experience of candidates will be a preferential selection criterion.
